Devlog 6: Production Sprint 1 End
Welcome back to our newest devlog. This week was the last one of the first production sprint. The main scene got a big overhaul to fix especially scale issues and problems with the height differences. We also built the main rock formations and box collision meshes so we didnt need to use custom mesh collisions which would have taken much longer and would be very heavy on performance.
As you can see there are some smaller changes to the layout aswell but mostly there are finally models in the scene with some very basic materials to show how it will roughly look. To implement all gameplay features and playtest this is perfectly enough.
The scene lighting looks currently still very dull, but that will get a complete rework as soon as we have textures for all environment assets.
We also modeled more meshes. The new minecart and tracks are already implemented into the scene and as you can see Chonky now has a Crossbow on his back to help Squishy defend against the attacking spiders.
And finally, Squishy is now ready to join his buddy, altough he's not really looking forward to get chased by a hord of spiders!
Looking forward to starting Sprint 2 and make these characters come to life !
As for programming, we focused on the behavior of the pickups. Since this is the main mechanic linking the two players, it was important to make sure players can pick coal, throw it over the distance between them, find hidden resources, pick up resources from dead enemies, and so on. Various other fixes such as aligning movement with the camera were also implemented.
