Devlog 7: Production Sprint 2


With the start of the second production sprint we really want to focus on getting everything thats part of the main gameplay loop into the game. Things like fx or a polished ui is not important right now and will be done further down in development. The artists were focused on creating environment assets, further developing the scene and putting a first implementation of lighting into the level. Also some refining in the shaders was in order to have it be more readible and gameplay focused. For the characters we worked on getting the rigs ready and making the important animations so there wont be any bad surprises later.

On the technical side, the characters and ennemies have now proper rigs, and are ready to be animated.  

Here are animation tests to make sure the rig and game implementation work properly.

Some animations are already game-ready, but a lot of tweaking will need to be done, especially to allow Chonky to properly move around with his crossbow and pickaxe. 

Although the simple humanoid animations work fine, Making it work with different tools will add a layer of difficulty to the process.

Every animation requires different orientations for the tools, trying to automate the process can result in quite unexpected outcomes.


After consideration with the team, we decided to change direction regarding the Big Monster ennemy. The former vaguely dragon / serpent looking dude now looks closer to a Dino. The implementation of the animations will be much easier this way.



As for the programming side of things, we made sure to focus on the main gameplay loop as well as player feedback. We finished the end goal logic, the durability logic, the shooting logic, added some placeholder particles, and most visibly added some UI so that the player know which buttons to press. Sadly the campfire isn't working yet due to the shooting taking longer than expected, but it is our main priority right now since together with the monster it will constitute the complete gameplay loop.
